Auditions coming up this week!
We are excited to announce our next production: War of the Worlds (Radio Play).
Auditions are taking place this week in Building 34 on the Southampton University Highfield Campus on the following days:
Tuesday 9th April – 7pm – in rooms 2003 & 3001
Wednesday 10th April – 7pm – in rooms 4013 & 3001
Upon being cast in a production, anyone who isn’t already, must become a member of SUP.
About the Play
War of the Worlds
Written by HG Wells. Adapted for stage and directed by Chris Hawley
To be preformed at Furzey Gardens on the 4th, 5th & 6th July 2024
Published in 1898, HG Wells’ classic sci-fi novel is the inspiration for SUP’s new adaptation of War of the Worlds. Dramatised and directed by award winning playwright and director, Chris Hawley, this chilling story of an alien invasion is presented on stage as a live radio broadcast.
It’s the summer of 1969 and in a local radio station a group of eminent studio guests are discussing the current Apollo 11 mission as it takes Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin on an epic journey to the moon in an attempt to land a man on the lunar surface. But, as the historic events unfold, details of strange lights in the sky above the Surrey Hills begin to come in. Could they be meteors or solar flares, or perhaps something more sinister emanating from Mars? As more reports pour into the newsroom, the terrifying truth of whether we are alone in the universe is about to become abundantly clear.
This fast paced and enthralling adaptation of this ever-popular story will have you on the edge of your seats.

How to Audition
Simply turn up on either Tuesday the 9th or Wednesday the 10th April at 7pm and auditions will be seen on a first-come-first-served basis.
Here are 4 excerpts from the script which you may be asked to read depending on what roles you’re interested in. You do not need to learn any of these for the audition, but having a look at them beforehand may help.
We will be looking for 4 to 6 actors to take on the larger roles and 3 or 4 to take on smaller, character roles and create the live sound effects during the show.
- Do you want to play a larger role(s) or smaller parts and help create the sound effects?
- What are you like at accents? Which ones?
- Are there any dates you definitely can’t do between now and the performances? *
*The rehearsal schedule will be fairly flexible, but we’ll usually meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will be a couple of weekend ‘sound’ workshops in May and early June which everyone will be required to attend and a full week of Technical rehearsals leading up to performances (evenings at Furzey)
